Mobile Web Best Practices 1.0 - New W3C Mobile Development Standards
(W3C) Internet companies, including Nokia, Vodafone Group Plc and Google Inc., have agreed on a set of Web site development guidelines simplifying the use of the Internet on cell phones. The W3C created 60 guidelines to design sites that are easy to use on cell phones, optimized for the much smaller screens and tiny keypads. A brief snapshot of these comprehensive recommendations: Usable Screen Width: 120 Pixels, min., Markup: XHTML-Basic, Character Encoding: UTF-8, JPEG GIF 89a (plain), Page Size: of 20k, Web Safe Colors, External CSS Level 1, HTTP/1.0 or HTTP/1.0.
